Mary-Kate Olsen, a friend of the Oscar-nominated actor, was the first person called by Diana Wolozin, a masseuse, who found the body.

Heath Ledger's body will be flown to AustraliaThe pair had four separate conversations, according to phone records, but instead of calling an ambulance, Miss Olsen sent her bodyguards to Mr Ledger's home. It was nine minutes before Miss Wolozin called an ambulance.

New York police had been reported to be planning to talk to Miss Olsen, but yesterday ruled this out after speaking to Miss Wolozin.

The body of the 28-year-old star of Brokeback Mountain was moved from a New York funeral home yesterday, apparently in preparation for a flight to his home town of Perth, where a private funeral was expected to be held. The arrangements "will continue to be kept private at the family's request", said his publicist, Mara Buxbaum.

He's everywhere! I think poor SouthernCross is becoming unhinged. Perhaps for the sake of his health, you ought to impose a temporary mini-ban - move all signs of his Heath Ledger obsession to Flamingoes and ban him to those threads alone until a couple of days past the funeral. Maybe it will give him a chance to unwind and overcome his grief! In there he can post every occurrence of Heath Ledger's name that can be found on the internet relatively alone and without anyone to disturb him so he can work out his loss unmolested. :(

Meh. Apologies all around and to Herr Linder. I did not know there had been another thread.

I think he overdosed on something or else committed suicide because he lost his hair; never recovered from portraying a cowboy faggot after which his wife left him, taking their daughter. In the end, I posted the article because young White actors are dropping like flies in jewywood; self-destructing in the oddest ways. Ledger is but another, he died. The rest are either in "rehabs" or mental hospitals [ref. to the infamous Britney Spears there]. Our Folk should begin to understand one thing, in the American slang: "Mama, do not let your children grow up to be movie stars". At least not while the kikes control that media.

I doubt it was the Western.

More likely the clown insanity of The Joker finished him:

Tragic Heath Ledger "pushed himself to the limit" playing The Joker in the new Batman movie, claims a senior crew member.

Peter Robb-King, who befriended the star during his last few months, said: "Few actors can give so much. He gave his heart, blood, tears and soul.

"A performance that will live on forever may have been the very thing that pushed him over the edge."

Deeply depressed after splitting with Brokeback Mountain co-star Michelle Williams, 27, Heath had thrown himself into the Dark Knight film, said Briton Peter.

The world-renowned make-up artist, who transformed Heath into The Joker, thinks exhaustion was the reason the star caught pneumonia, believed to be a contributory cause in his death.

Other insiders say 28-year-old Heath's portrayal of the dark criminal mastermind who hides behind the mask of a clown was "breathtaking".

Peter told of one dramatic moment during filming. He said Ledger, sullen and intense, was deep into his role as Batman's evil nemesis. He stared hard at the camera and asked: "Why so serious?" The entire Dark Knight crew fell silent, aware they had witnessed an extraordinary performance.

"When he said those words I knew one simple scene would go on to be an iconic moment. I'll never forget it," Peter told the Sunday Mirror. Heath immediately started filming Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus after his Joker role.

Peter believes he probably caught pneumonia while filming the now-scrapped movie in shirt sleeves in bitter London weather.

He regularly worked 15 hours in a row, finishing at 5am. A chronic insomniac who spent every short break jetting across the world to see two-year-old daughter Matilda, he slept fitfully during daylight at his rented flat in Islington, North London.

Peter, who won a Bafta for his work on Daniel Day Lewis's Last of the Mohicans in 1992 and was Oscar nominated for Legend in 1985, forged a close friendship with Heath during the hours he spent turning him into The Joker.

He added: "If Heath had fallen ill on set he would still have turned up every day, because as the lead actor, you are irreplaceable. Heath pushed himself to the limit."

Imaginarium extra Michael Godfrey, 19, who worked with Heath through the night at a specially-built fairground by London's Tower Bridge, said: "I can't imagine what effect the schedule would have had on him.

"Heath was on the night shoot for a week but I was there just two days. It messed up my body clock for days afterwards so God knows what it was like for him."

Heath, who left London last Sunday for a break, was found on Tuesday at his home in SoHo, New York, by cleaner Teresa Solomon and masseuse Diane Wolozin, surrounded by sleeping pills.

Before calling an ambulance Miss Wolozin first dialled Heath's 21-year-old actress girlfriend Mary-Kate Olsen in Los Angeles. Police are awaiting the results of tests to establish the cause of his death.

I agree Herr Linder. When I had posted this information, I had not noticed SC's thread dedicated to this movie star. In fact, I thought this redundant one of mine had been deleted. I had posted it as a bit of news; had no idea that it was to become such a big topic.

Heath Ledger's death was accidental, resulting from misuse of a cocktail of painkillers, anxiety medication and sleeping pills, the New York coroner has found.

In a statement issued today, the city's medical examiner said: "Mr Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine."

The medical examiner ruled out suicide.

"We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications."

While the medical examiner said his finding was accidental death, the statement did not elaborate on "the abuse of prescription medications".

There was no further comment in the brief formal statment.

Ledger's US-based publicist, Mara Buxbaum, immediately released a statement from Ledger's father, Kim, requesting the media to stop speculating about what killed his son.

"Today's results put an end to speculation, but our son's beautiful spirit and enduring memory will forever remain in our hearts," Mr Ledger wrote.

"While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy.

"Heath's accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage."

Ledger, the star of 2006 best picture Oscar nominee Brokeback Mountain and this year's Batman sequel, The Dark Knight, went public with his sleeping troubles in an interview with The New York Times late last year.

He complained he could sleep only two hours a night and his "body was exhausted".

Ledger told the newspaper two Ambien sleeping pills would give him just one hour of sleep.

Ellen Borakove, director of public affairs at the New York Chief Medical Examiner's Office, declined to say how many pills Ledger had taken to cause his death, nor the concentrations of each drug found in his blood.

Ledger's father's reference to "low dosage" however, and the ruling that Ledger died from an accidental overdose rather than suicide indicate large quantities of any one drug were not found in his bloodstream.

"It was the cumulative effects of these medications together," Ms Borakove said.

Funeral preparations

The actor's family, two-year-old daughter Matilda, and former fiancee, Michelle Williams, are preparing for his funeral in Perth.

The funeral, expected within days, will be private.

Ledger's family and Williams have made repeated pleas for privacy and for the media to let them grieve.

Mr Ledger today again asked for privacy and also opened up about the pain his family was suffering.

"We remain humble as parents and a family, among millions of people worldwide who may have suffered the tragic loss of a child," he wrote in his statement.

"Few can understand the hollow, wrenching, and enduring agony parents silently suffer when a child predeceases them."

Mr Ledger also thanked the support his family had received the past fortnight.

"We treasure our beautiful granddaughter Matilda [to our dear Michelle] as well as an unbelievably wonderful network of close friends, forever, around the world," he wrote.

"Families rarely experience the uplifting, warm and massive outpouring of grief and support as have we, from every corner of the planet.

"This has deeply and profoundly touched our hearts and lives.

"We are eternally grateful."

Mr Ledger also told how he cherished the time he had with his son in Perth over Christmas and gave a glimpse of what was special about the movie star.

"Our family enjoyed an extremely happy two-week visit with Heath just prior to the new year," he continued.

"Those recent precious days will stay with us forever.

"We as a family feel privileged to have some of his amazing magic moments captured in film.

"To most of the world Heath was an actor of immeasurable talent and promise.

"To those who knew him personally, Heath was a consummate artist whose passions also included photography, music, chess and directing.

"We knew Heath as a loving father, as our devoted son, and as a loyal and generous brother and friend."

Mr Ledger made one final plea to the media to give the family space to mourn.

"At this moment we respectfully request the worldwide media allow us time to grieve privately, without the intrusions associated with press and photography," he wrote.

Ledger's body was found by a masseuse about 3pm in an apartment in New York on January 22. When she realised he was not responsive she alerted a friend and then paramedics, but Ledger was declared dead at 3.36pm.

The actor was living in a SoHo loft apartment after separating from Williams, who lives in Brooklyn with the couple's daughter.
