Woman Caught In Alleged Plot To Kill Her Ex Husband
June 24th, 2004
She's accused of hiring a man to kill her ex-husband, but there's a twist. The man she hired was actually an undercover officer. Florela McCorkle-Martinez is in jail tonight after an elaborate scheme to kill her ex-husband backfired. News 3's Lisa Hidalgo reports her ex-husband is a Henderson Police officer, and in the police report it states she wanted him killed while he was on duty and in uniform.
In May, the Henderson Police Department contacted Metro saying they needed assistance. The report says Henderson PD had information from a reliable source that one of their officers was in danger. The four page police report reads like a Hollywood script, but you won't see it played out in any theaters, only in the courtroom.
Here's the scenario: Florela McCorkle-Martinez is accused of hiring a hit man to kill her ex-husband, Sergeant Robert McCorkle, a Henderson Police officer. On June 1st, Martinez met the "hit man" at Cafe Nicolle. What she didn't know is the "hit man" was actually a undercover Metro officer, and everything she said and did was being recorded.
Police say she offered the man 10 thousand dollars to kill her ex-husband. On June 15th, the two met again, this time at the Grape Street Cafe. The police report states, "She requested the undercover employee shoot her ex-husband between the eyes. She also requested the undercover employee cut off her ex-husband's genitalia and place the genitalia in the mouth of Robert."
Martinez paid the undercover officer one thousand dollars in cash and agreed to pay the other nine thousand within 90 days. That is solicitation to commit murder and attempted murder, and that's where the movie-like story came to an end. Police followed Martinez from the restaurant and soon after, she was arrested.
Martinez is being held at the Clark County Detention Center. She agreed to talk to us today, but when we got to the jail she refused, saying she wanted her attorney present. Martinez made her first court appearance yesterday. She'll be back in court July 13th for a preliminary hearing.
