Whenever I try to make posts on this forum or on other places like topix.com it doesn't work unless I turn off TOR.
What do I have to so I can post and have Tor on at the same time?
I don't want the people at topix to see what city I live in when I go there and type semitically incorrect posts.

I tried using the torbutton firefox extension but I could not connect to the internet when it was on.
I will try using torbutton again later but for now I am using foxtor which is an alternate firefox extension similar to torbutton. I can go on the internet with it but I am not able to make posts.

Just manually set your proxy settings in your browser to localhost:8118
See what happens.

I tried that and it still doesn't work.
I think I need to remove all of it and start over.

Can you not enable TOR system wide and chain it via privoxy?
I have no trouble with IRC, Posting or anything else. You may also want to look into squid and socat.

I'm using Tor to post here without any problems, are you sure that you configured it right?
Just one thing you should keep in mind when using Tor though, when you access non httpS sites such as vnn, your username and password may be visible to Tor exit node operators.

If TOR is what makes me anomynous then what does privoxy do?
Does privoxy make it so I can post and do other things than just browse?
I think I may not have privoxy configured correctly.
Also something bad happened when I was trying to get Tor/Privoxy to work and now my firefox no longer displays images.

Privoxy's function is to basically cover a loophole in Tor which could otherwise leak your real identity, you can read a detailed explanation here: https://wiki.torproject.org/noreply/TheOnionRouter/TorFAQ#SOCKSAndDNS
You should always use both privoxy and tor.

Perhaps you should try uninstalling and reintalling the Tor/Vidalia bundle.

I find that you need both Privoxy and Tor installed otherwise none of it works properly.
