Thanks Varg, I'm headin to that site now and DL whatever is needed to use the torrents. I played around with torrents when they first came out, or at least when I first saw them, and I couldn't figure out what to do. But it sounds like you DL the torrent file (the player?) and then the torrent video (file?) and then play them?
Anyway, I'm going to try it again. Thanks . . . . I'll let you know how it goes cause I'd really like to learn how to do them.

It seems to be here. I DL'd the torrent file and now DL'ing a file from Varg's site. I am curious how to play the file once it's loaded though. Is it a WMV file or ???? - I guess I shall see. I just checked and I am at 50% of the DL.
Which site isn't working for you . . . the torrent program DL site or Varg's site?
53.5% now . . . .

OK, it didn't take me long to get all F'd up. Here's a screen shot, it's 100% done but it "seeding." Can someone please tell me what I need to do in order to watch it? Thanks . . . .

In uTorrent, right click on the downloaded file. A menu will pop up. Choose "Open containing folder". This will at least let you locate the downloaded file. First just click on it to see if any program you already have will open it. It may be a compressed file. If it is a .tar file, you will need something to un-compress it. My suggestion is ziPeg. It's free and works well. To get ziPeg go to zipeg.com and download it.
I downloaded the same file you have. I can't remember if it was compressed or not. To play it you will need something like "real player" or "Quicktime player" or "VLC player."
I don't know if "Windows Media Player" will play the file.

Oh! And, uTorrent won't stop uploading, until you actually exit it. I'm no whizbo on torrents, but the system uses your computer to help other users download stuff. I'm fairly sure it is safe, though. Once you exit uTorrent, that will stop.

Perfect! Worked great and yes, it did play on Windows Media Player. Thanks!
Man, look at the great country Germany was! I hope it can become great again and like America and all other White nations - remove the filth once and for all! I just scanned through it and will watch it in full later. Great DL.

I hate to break it to you, but that's how you managed to download and how others will; if others wouldn't share (seed), and only download (leech), then nobody would be able to download anything. If everybody cuts the stream, the whole P2P and torrent system will be rendered utterly useless.
Just keep µTorrent running when you're idle, you can even specify that in the program's configurations. If your connection is poor you can also restrict the maximum upstream rate (uploading bandwidth).

I figured it was something like this. I don't mind, and my computer is running usually about 10 hours a day, so I guess I'm a potentially a good torrent citizen. I'd let it run 24/7 like I used to, but the burglaries are getting so frequent and brazen in my neighborhood that when I leave the house or go to bed, I move all my valuable possessions, including my laptop, to secure locations. My house is nearly a fortress, so I doubt it will be broken into, but it was last year, and there have been two subsequent attempts. Damn niggers fuck the world up.
But back on topic. As I said, I'm not a whozbo on torrents, but I can see how valuable the technology is. Perhaps you or varg or another torrent expert could write up some instruction on tuning it. I've tried to wade through the forums and FAQs, but haven't found much.

OK, I didn't know this. So when it was "seeding" someone else was DL'ing the file? -- After I located the file on my computer, I deleted it from the torrent screen. Does that mean the seeding stopped, and I F'd whoever was DL'ing it?
BTW, I wished I understood torrents a long time ago, I missed a lot of good DL's. But heck, it's EZ, nothing to it. And yes, Varg did a great job in starting the site.

Yea you 'seed' (share/upload) the file as you are downloading it, and when its finished.
In utorrent you can stop seeding a file (ONCE ITS FINISHED!!)
by selecting it.. right clicking.. and select 'remove and'... then 'delete .torrent'
This will delete the .torrent file so you no longer seed it, but retain the data of the file you downloaded.. (it will be in your download folder)
Though it would be preferable if you seeded the files... it doesnt matter for the ones that have a lot of seeders already
Some of the files on the site i got off public torrents.. so it has a lot of seeders already.
But some I uploaded myself off my computer (thats why theres only 1 seeder), So i would prefer more people downloaded+seeded those ones! because when its just 1 seeder it takes longer to download, when more people are seeding those it will be faster for everyone

Please describe how to seed a new file. I think I understand the concept, but what do I put for 'Tracker' when I Create New Torrent? Do I have to register/login at one of the tracker sites? Thanks.
varg
July 16th, 2008, 08:29 AM
In utorrent use.. File -> create new torrent
1) either select 'add file' or 'add directory' depending on what you want to share
2) use one of these public trackers..
http://tracker.prq.to/announce
http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
3) uncheck 'private torrent'..
4) click create and save as... name the .torrent filename
5) click upload on wntorrent.com .... select the .torrent .... select a categorie.... select 'tracker: public' .... give it a description
6) hit upload
It will add the torrent to the 'recent' torrents on the main page... with 1 seeder (you) ... I will probably download it off of you and seed it also, so it will always be available! .. then once more people download+seed .. the faster everyone will beable to download it

Which is something that with proper maintenance and a flourishing community, with testers and what-not, could prevent.
With torrents it's a little bit better to control potential virii threats too, especially when compared to eMule or other P2P mechanisms where you have [relatively] lesser control over the data and its acquisition.

Well, this one will be maintained by WNs, as the name and title of the whole site and project suggests. We'll only have to worry about possibly infiltrators (pre-emptively blocking the IP ranges of Israel, Turkey and China, to name a few, will weed out a good amount already).
Maybe it'd be a good idea to have a strict policy towards releasers, to subject them to a type of screening and/or to hand-pick them from this forum and other places.
(Just a few suggestions...)

It's a nice idea, in theory. But maintaining that over the long haul....It's a big job.

Most viruses are from executable files..
Right now theres only a few torrents on there, and all of them are safe.
If i start getting more people uploading torrents, I will probably download them all (so that there will always be someone seeding).. I will scan them, and remove anything that may contain viruses.
You run the same risk getting viruses from visiting any site you find on google
Also, most of the viruses on other torrent sites, are from pirated/warezed software (executeables). I'm mostly going to only allow WN content on the site (audio, video, documentaries, documents, etc), so there shouldnt be a problem with viruses

That's a good policy. If someone needs a certain program, they can also ask via-via (preferably via PMs) like on this forum. I don't really think there's a gigantic advantage in getting software from a WN site anyway, it might only attract our enemies under the guise of ‘anti-piracy’ and demanding the site & project to be closed down to uphold ‘patents’ and ‘copyright laws.’
Plus, nowadays there's so much available that's open source, ‘free for non-commercial use’, freeware, etc., which suits the needs of lots of people. (As an unwritten rule: The more ‘savy’ people are, the more capable they generally are at finding what they need, so they wouldn't have to rely on WNtorrent for their software needs either. People often find what suits their needs).

No. I would argue that. A shitload come from activeX plugins and scripts dude. A scanner is only as good as how well it is maintained.
And you know as well as I that many of these so-called leading edge solutions are weeks behind in maintaining their (current) offender lists.
And yes, you are right in inferring that torrent sites are not for n00bs.
Mark Kerpolt
July 25th, 2008, 06:09 AM
ActiveX and ‘scripts’ are often only a means to transfer an even bigger threat ‘into place,’ or they can just be horrible nags on their own (nestled in some browser) but they're only a mere nuisance compared to — for example — a fully fledged trojan (patched [infected] onto a system process or application), boot sector or root-kit virus.
Either way, if you want really want to go for safe: A real safe way to download just about anything, without even having a virus-scanner installed whatsoever, is to run torrents and other downloads in a virtual environment, within a virtual machine. This can be done with VMware, VirtualPC, xVM or some other virtualization application. Most allow bridged or other types of shared LAN connections into the virtual machine, and from there you could just about download anything and debug whatever you reel in. Whatever is safe, you can then transfer over to the host (your actual operating environment).
If you make a back-up image of a cleanly installed, functional, virtual machine for such a task, then if you'd — by accident or carelessness — catch a virus on the virtual machine, you can then shred the virtual machine as a whole and simply load up a new instance of the back-up.

If you guys download something, make sure that you seed(re: share) it long enough that you at least upload the same amount to somebody else. Basically, wait until your ratio is above 1.0. I generally will seed anything I get until my ratio is at least 3.
That way, more people can get the file, the downloads are faster, and more content is spread. Torrents are a team effort.

Only if you're lazy. Read the comments on the sites, download just the .nfo and compare file sizes, make sure the release is from a legitimate release group, etc.
Also, torrents are certainly for nubs. Before torrents irc xdcc transfers, newsgroups, and ftps were the standard means of transporting media.
