You can actually get a 100-300 watt laser diode for pretty short
money as they are used a lot in the metal heat treating industry.
Have you seen the new 3 GHz WinRadio receiver with the four channels,
video demod and output (AM or FM), sub-carrier demodulation, and USB
2.0 control? >:-}
