MTA Says Platforms Will 'Only' Be 20 Degrees Hotter This Year
With mild temperatures suggesting a less brutal summer ahead, MTA officials said this week that the average difference in temperature between city streets and subway platforms will "only" be about 20 degrees. "What this means," explained Sam Champion, the weather forecaster for Eyewitness News, "is that if the temperature at street level is 92 degrees, it's only going to be about 112 on the subway platform." While a 20 degree difference might seem significant to some, Champion argued that 20 degrees was well below average. "In past years, the difference was much more dramatic, usually more like 30 degrees," said Champion. But most commuters didn't seem terribly excited by the positive news. "For $2.00, we should get some air conditioning on the platforms," said a generously-proportioned Robert Reasons as he occupied two seats on the D train. "If the MTA has millions of bucks lying around, why don't they use it to buy some air conditioners?" he asked. Other commuters suggested that the MTA post the temperature at entrances to the subway. "It would be great to know how hot it is on the platforms before I have to descend into the bowels of hell," said Alison Fava. "They could even post it on those little white boards next to the token booth clerks. Then I can decide to just walk if it's 121 degrees on the platform," she said.

E-mail scam makes Best Buy scramble | CNET
People can be so stupid to fall for these scams but now it's known lately as the Best Buy scam. If I really have to explain it in detail I will eat someones young. Lets say I am a hacker. I mail you. The mail says, thanks for your order from tommEE.net, but your password and credit card are wrong, please update. You update. Why do you update? Because you might be the 1 in 100 that have ordered something from tommEE.net. Is this cause for alarm? No. It's just bad news gets lots of attention. Like I said before, this scam works on ratios of people. It's just like sending an email to lots of people about thier paypal account. It would only work if they had paypal, and were STUPID. No word from Dell yet but Pocket PC 2003 date rumor
A news report at ComputerWeekly.COM confirms the release date of Microsoft's Pocket PC 2003 OS as June 23rd.
According to the article, the new OS will come with improved capabilities for detecting and maintaining wireless network connections, and better performance. It will also be optimized for Intel's XScale processors. It looks like Gateway will be releasing a pda as well.
Airlines Installing In-Flight E-Mail but not really.
While watching cnn this morning I heard about United Airlines installing email capabilities. The airline is finally adding two-way text to existing in-flight technology. The price? Something around $16 a flight. Ok, a little expensive. Just wait a second, it is not Real Time! You mail is run through a server on the plane. So basically you are dealing with a queue. I would worry about my email being read. You want constant email, get a blackberry or a wifi card for your pda.
Hey it's me Richard... Oh no, you dick! *boom*

Smart Phones may be the next big thing, but terrorists are already tricking-out standard dumb-old-mobile-phones to trigger bombs and such. According to an article at Wired.COM modified cell phones turned up during searches in Saudi Arabia following the May 12 bombing in Riyadh that killed 35 people, including nine Americans.
So Final Verdict, Sync n Go sucks.
It's slow. It's screws up a lot. The content takes forever to update and there is a definite lack of content. Save the money and buy something like
Snapstream. You can create your own portable videos.
Remember listening to Cnet Radio?
Well I used to listen to Cnet Radio and it was pretty good to listen to at work. I like being updated about the tech news. Well my Microsoft Sync-n-go had a channel called Ken Radio. I now go to the site directly. It's cool to see the noise that they talk about today. Today they have the topics listed as:

Bloomberg approval rating around 25% wonder why?
From NY1:
City Hall denies ordering a ticket blitz to raise cash for the city, but an informal survey of police officers says otherwise.
Among 200 officers interviewed by the Daily News, 65 percent said they felt “a lot” or “some pressure” to issue tickets. The punishments for not meeting quotas, according to the officers who talked to the paper, include the denial of requests for days off and overtime shifts taken away.
Many of the officers said they wrote tickets they knew would be thrown out in court.
The officers also told the News that morale in the Police Department is low. They complained that the public has forgotten their heroics after the World Trade Center attack and their steady track record of reducing crime.
Police officials questioned the survey's credibility, according to the News.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly have denied that police officers have been given ticket quotas, citing an overall drop in the total number of tickets issued this year.
Ok, lets start playing catch up
Just since there hasn't been any posts, there has been lots of news:
Olsen twins turn 17
Mary Kate and Ashley turned 17 on Thursday. I was watching the bottom of the screen on CNN and it mentioned that the twins are worth 150 million dollars. So I have to mark on my PDA when it will be ok to date the two twins. There is also the possiblity that they will lose thier money and join the rank of all the other strippers.
Cell number portablilty
So keeping your cell number went back to court this week. The cell companies all stated that it would be too expensive to support this option and it would be no convenience for the customer. The court kept the ruling that we will be able to keep our cell number starting in November. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
Replay TV changing
The new Replay TV will be on it's way soon but it will be somewhat different than the old versions. It seems that they will be removing features that made the box really cool. The comercial skip will be removed that would let user skip in 30 second units. The function that would enable you to share full shows with your firends over the internet will be also removed. Get a TiVo.
46 Days till Defcon
So I thought it would be time for an update of the Defcon Cannonball Run. We are still planning on departing Redondo Beach, July 31st 2003 at noon. We will possibly have a fun bus leaving before that for any volunteers and people who are planning to video the finish.
The race is against time. There will be a time clock in Redondo Beach and it will be synchronized with another one in Las Vegas at the Alexis Park Hotel. We will have two Defcon Cannonball Run officials to oversee this responsibility.
The teams will be asked to enter thier team name apon arrival and then all teams will be chosen at random for the teams departure time. Teams not going to the Defcon Conference are not permitted. This race is only for the computer security conference.
All teams will donate a small cash donation for the winning team. The winner shall get a bar tab that will make others jealous. Others will get boobie prizes, this year I promise.
Any information can be found on
http://moloch.org/cannonball or can be mailed to cannonball@moloch.org.
Sad news for tommEE
So I went to the dentist on Saturday and I found out I need a lot of work. A lot. Please make sure you tip the bar at the Moloch Defcon Party and buy plently of Moloch T-shirts at Defcon this year. We do have a huge suite for the party that is draining the wallet but I am going to have to pay the dentist $14,000. Ouch... and I am not talking about tooth pain.
