The Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death, hereby known as the RROD, has reared its ugly red head again, this time in the form of a class action lawsuit filed by disgruntled consumers in California.

The lawsuit alleges that an excessive number of Xbox 360 consoles have experienced hardware failures, aka the RROD. Perhaps more damning is the lawsuit's allegation that Microsoft knowingly manufactured faulty Xbox 360 consoles, and then concealed the failure rate in order to better compete with The PlayStation 3 and Wii.

As evidence, the lawsuit presents articles from a variety of gaming publications, including dailygamesnews.com, VentureBeat, Digital Media and Yahoo! Each of these articles states that Microsoft knew as far back as November 2005 that over 50% of Xbox 360 consoles were defective (emphasis added because that's an insane number in an industry where 3% or so is the accepted norm).

Lastly, the lawsuit seeks a court order that would force Microsoft to pay off the disenfranchised Xbox 360 owners with all profits that it made from sale of the console. A kind of RROD refund program, if you will.

If it's true that MS knew they were pushing a defective product on it's consumers, then I say give them hell. In my opinion, these big corporations need to be taught a lesson, that the public will only take so much before they get fed up with the shenanigan's and fight back through legal means.

This. And you know why you do this? You do this so you only have to pay $200~500 for your game console. Xbox 360s are cheap, made-in-china pieces of shit, reliability and durability wise. But if they weren't if every machine was built to last (wait, it'll be obsolete in a couple years anyway), if every machine was well made and had a 3%~) failure rate then you'd pay paying WAY more for the machine. What with warranties and returns and shit these days you can get a new xbox a couple times over the span of a few years for free. What are you bitching about?

I still have my original PS2 from 2001.

I plan to have my PS3 that long as well.

I pay these companies good money to play games, not wasting time sending back items that they fucked up.

Sure sounds like he nuked his 360 - He gets a NEW 360 from best buy with his exteded warranty (great thinking actually) that has new features (HDMI out, bigger HD)

Also, you hate that you have to buy a new console for a new game? Fuck, thats like saying you hate how you have to replace your computer built from 1993 to run Windows Vista. Its technology....can't expect gaming companies to dumb down Halo 3 to a 8bit NES.

right. it's gay that their shit just can't work, but i was alright with just sending it in. it was sent to be fixed literally about 15 min away so it was back in like 3 days.
