turn on cnn. former president bush is in bagdhad today, and during a press conference a disgruntled local journalist attacked him with, get this: his shoes. he stood up and whipped his dogs at him, one after the other. bush ducked the first missile, and the second just barely missed his head. the reporter was subdued and dragged away screaming. apparently bush said: "all i can report is that it was a size 10" jokingly. video as soon i can find it

Jeeze! Pretty soon seeing the President is going to be like going through airport security. You'll have to take your shoes off...but they wont give them back until he's gone! :(

Imagine Obama's speach after he won the election, or his inauguration, but everyone is wearing their socks or slippers...

would have been better if there was something on the bottom of his shoe...and it actually hit bush in the face

Must be due to his ashkenazi reptilian bloodline.

I for one applaud Bush for his quick reactions, would have been better if he had thrown something back.

Like one of his own shoes, baseball-pitcher style.

And then it stuck into the thrower's solar plexus, as he looked down at it, let out a death rattle, and slumped over dead.

It was actually something alongside the lines of "This is a goodbye kiss from all the Iraqis, bitch!" (I shit you not)

Also, this remind anyone of those flash ad mini-games where it's like "Hit Bush in the face 5 times and get a free xbox360"?

Nah, the language actually was very traditional arabic, and it was the lesser-used, formal dialect. He called Bush a dog, which is an extremely insulting word, and the symbolism behind the shoe was -

Muslims believe that the shoe is extremely dirty, which is why they must be taken off in mosques and most homes. All the muslims I met in lebanon, syria, iraq etc never lay a shoe down sole-up, and they would always go out of their way to make sure we didn't either.

I got hit by my auntie for doing that once.

"Mr Zaidi had thrown his shoes at the American Commander-in-Chief as he was giving a press conference with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki. His words, "this is a goodbye kiss, you dog," achieved instant fame across the Muslim world. Mr Bush ducked the first shoe and Mr Maliki swatted at the second as the shoe-thrower yelled: "This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq."

Guys I was born in Iraq, you don't know what you're talking about.

The symbolisim of the shoe has nothing to do with Islam, it's just a common way to insult someone, and the insult "dog" shouldn't be taken litterally, it has multiple meanings, exactly like the word bitch in english. When used in an insult it means just about the equivalent of that.

^ yeah, it's just part of culture, and culture and religion is so entwined, especially about stuff like that.

Example:

The hijab was originally a thing brought upon by a sultan who had all his female subordinates wear a headscarf.

Yeah but really, the last thing he thought about was religion when throwing that shoe, it's just a phsyical way of saying "FUCK YOU!". Violence is very common in a country like Iraq, all you have to do is look at its political history to figure out why.

So he insulted Bush's honour, so now Bush has to fight him to the death in the arena?

Regan would have done it.

Apparently the journalist that threw the shoe is now in prison after being very badly beaten, and has suffered many injuries.

No. The shoe would have narrowly missed Regan and hit a press secretary.

Then there would be 10 day waiting period on shoes.
