Editor's Note
After former President Jimmy Carter helped free American Aijalon Gomes from North Korea in August, Robert H. Rawlings, publisher of The Pueblo Chieftain, wrote the former president about freeing the USS Pueblo, a U.S. Navy ship held captive by the North Koreans since 1968.

Thanks for your letter about the USS Pueblo. Your city does, indeed, have a remarkable record of military heroism.
I'll keep your request in mind and, if I have another opportunity to meet with N. Korean leaders, will ask them to return the ship. I know that President Ford would have agreed with this action. Best wishes,
Jimmy Carter
