As an American citizen, I consider myself committed to the democratic ideals espoused in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

While I have many disagreements with the policies and priorities of the United States government, I am proud to live in a society where I am free to express my beliefs -- unpopular though they may be -- without fear of reprisal or censure.

We have been reminded by the events of September 11, 2001 that our society exhibits some of the noblest traits. In the face of crisis, we are capable of great feats. But we have also become reacquainted with our own bigotry, ignorance, and intolerance.

To the homegrown bigots and racists who declare hatred toward Arabs: knock it the fuck off already. We have enough problems dealing with the current situation without you dumbshits threatening the lives of fellow law-abiding American citizens. Go back to your Mein Kampf coloring books and leave us adults alone. We're busy.

To the dimbulbs who hate Muslims: You are an embarrassing throwback to the Dark Ages. Your kind flourished during the Inquisition. Our nation's history includes centuries of repression against Jews, Catholics, and other non-protestant religions. You bring shame on yourself, your family, and your community. You should be shunned.

And to those who claim that the horrific acts of terror were in some way a warning from God to reverse America's permissive culture: God despises you and all of your kind. Your pride is ill-fitting. Your false prophecies are an abomination. When you are called before your Maker to answer for your thoughts and deeds, you cannot claim that no one ever warned you.
