Completed Projects

  •  Milksop Project - reprogram TSOP flash using a TSOP test clip with no soldering and in under 45 seconds
  • Cheaptag  -  one resistor, two connectors and some wire gets you a Xilinx Jtag Programming device
  • CheapLPC - Okay, so you have an LPC flash (or Linux Powered Chip equivalent).  How are you going to program it?  With your PC Parallel port of course.
  • Milk - this is the application that knows how to operate Milksop, CheapLPC, Filtror and Jektor.
  • Filtror Project  - LPC-based flash emulator uses 8Mbit SRAM and gives highspeed PC comms
  • Cheapmod - UPDATED 2002-08-31 - $4 LPC flash mod, programmable via CheapLPC, now with supercheap varaiant and more pictures for building and fitting
  • Cheapi2c - NEW 2002-10-03 - your Linux box can now snoop i2c traffic with 100% capture - with just some wire

Information

Crucially important note:  The X-Box chassis floats.  Bad things will happen if you hook your PC to it without connecting it to Earth Ground first.  See the Milksop page for more information.  DO NOT IGNORE THIS WARNING.

Thought my site was being DDoS'ed yesterday, but when I looked at the referrer URLs it seems that some enterprising folks have found that Cheapmod is back in business on v1.6 boxes, causing a sudden burst of interest. I have not touched and Xbox for over a year now, it's nice that this stuff is still useful to people.
I still get emails about Cheapmod and the other projects, first, please email me plaintext as HTML email goes straight in the trash. Second, I do not sell, nor have I ever sold, chips or PCBs or anything for Cheapmod. With the recent (outrageous) decision in the UK making sale of Modchips illegal, thanks to the EUCD, there's no chance of that changing either. However, since nothing in that judgement, according to the BBC article I read, affects information about modchips, this site will be staying up until enough Euro-politicians have been wined and dined (and given to understand they can expect a job in MSFT) to make even talking about modchips illegal.

Just a quick cleanup of the site, which is starting to get old and out of date now.  Cheapmod still works on newer Xboxes apparently, but you have to get bits of the LPC interface from a BGA I am told, so that part is definitely starting to look less useful than it was, when it gets completely useless I will take the page down.  (I don't know any details, so I suggest you search around further if you have a newer Xbox).  I updated the milk sources which are still being maintained, to v0.20.  There are some new features, since all the work is being done under Linux the new things are only tested under Linux.  People are finding CheapI2C very useful, I heard from about a dozen people who have had success with it on various equipment like video cards, Ham radio equipment and consumer video gear.

Have a nice day :-)
